MET GALA 2015

This years theme at Ms. Wintour's cotillion going along with the annual exhibit at the Metrapolitiaon Museum of Art is " CHINA: THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS ".

From the Met website : This exhibition, organized by The Costume Institute in collaboration with the Department of Asian Art, will explore the impact of Chinese aesthetics on Western fashion, and how China has fueled the fashionable imagination for centuries. High fashion will be juxtaposed with Chinese costumes, paintings, porcelains, and other art, including films, to reveal enchanting reflections of Chinese imagery.
From the earliest period of European contact with China in the sixteenth century, the West has been enchanted with enigmatic objects and imagery from the East, providing inspiration for fashion designers from Paul Poiret to Yves Saint Laurent, whose fashions are infused at every turn with romance, nostalgia, and make-believe. Through the looking glass of fashion, designers conjoin disparate stylistic references into a pastiche of Chinese aesthetic and cultural traditions.
The exhibition will feature more than one hundred examples of haute couture and avant-garde ready-to-wear alongside Chinese art. Filmic representations of China will be incorporated throughout to reveal how our visions of China are framed by narratives that draw upon popular culture, and also to recognize the importance of cinema as a medium through which to understand the richness of Chinese history.

I do not do as much with fashion here on the k+b as I did when I first started doing this, eight years ago. Back then it took work for me the morning after the Oscars or Tonys , what ever - to find photographs. Now, seems there are countless dripping fashion bloggers and sites. " Real " news covers these events, most of these pictures came from TIME.COM. I don't do as much of it, because everyone else does.
There is also the fact that I don't watch a lot of real tv or listen to a lot of what the kids are on the radio, so I just don't know who a lot of these folks are. And not that it has changed so much in 8 years but it just all seems so processed now - like everything else I guess, factory fashion. Plus these posts just take forever to do!

THE BEST

THE CLOONEYS
Amal in John Galliano for Maison Margiela
Sure they look like wedding cake toppers - but beautiful ones. Amal is in New York teaching at Columbia ( or is it NYU  ? ) this spring. Yes, she is that cool
Helen Mirren
Dolce&Gabbana
It is Helen Mirren - she is pulling down raves at eight shows a week on Broadway and can do this on her night off. It is her world, we just live in it.
Sarah Jessica Parker
H&M Dress
Phillip Treacy Headress
This blew up the internet last night with even me making fun of it - but SJP always goes one step beyond for the Met Gala, this stays on theme and stands out.

Allison Williams
Giambattista Valli Couture
This made a few worst lists this morning, I am putting it on my best for a) staying sort of with the theme and b) it is a very Allison Williams dress, plus it is just pretty and very gala/ball looking
Kendal Jenner
Calvin Klein
I do my best to avoid any mention of thought of this family ( she is step sister of the Kardashians ) and her dad has been all over the news as of late, but there is no getting around the fact that the camera loves this 19 yo. She was all over the fashion week runways - this dress is on theme and she does look great . Take a look at more pics of it and the beaded fabric close up HERE
Anne Hathaway
Ralph Lauren
Maybe not the dress to wear on STAR WARS DAY ( May the 4th ) but she is rocking this classic Hollywood look. I am somehow getting a little Chinois from it.
Bee Shaffer
Alexander McQueen
Her mother throws this party just so her daughter can be one of the best looking there - good to have friends in high places, but this is just outstanding, maybe the best of the night
THE WORST

Madonna
Maschino
She and Katy Perry and Maschino designer Jeremy Scott did the whole "three little maids from school are we "thing . You know like Madonna did with Sandra Bernhard ( and many others ) back in 1988 . Some years Madge gets the Met right, some years its a fail. This was a BIG fail. I did not hate this Maschino collection, at all - just wrong for Madonna and this event.
Lily Collins
Chanel
For some reason many woman decided that CHINA meant flowers last night, not sure why. I liked the spring '15 Chanel collection very much - and I think this is a lovely dress, just not for this event -
Kris Jenner
Bailmain

This is Kendal Jenner's mother - until last year the entire K-clan was officially banned from this event, really - but the exception was made last year, with the biggest selling edition of Vouge in years so the flood gates were opened. AND THIS IS THE HORROR THAT YOU GET -
Constance Jablonski
yoga pants, tube top, shower shoes
I had to google - she is a French model - who I am guessing will not be invited back

THE EXPECTED

J Lo
Versace

Kim Kardashian West
Roberto Cavali

Beyonce
Givenchy Haute Couture
Ladies, Ladies, Ladies - we get it - you have sexy bodies, but come on, this has been done to death -
or as TLo put it " what ever, girl ".

Kim and JLo's Asses
That said, this photo should win a Pulitzer, or what ever award photos get.
